Job Description
The Assistant Teacher supports the Head Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for maintaining active supervision, supporting classroom activities and routines, attending to children’s individual needs, and assisting with the implementation of lesson plans and learning experiences.
Qualifications
Must have completed, or be actively working toward completion within six (6) months of hire, Introduction to the Child Care Profession or an equivalent approved course. Must be emotionally, mentally, and physically capable of providing safe and appropriate care to children. Must complete a physical examination and tuberculosis (TB) test within the previous year or within thirty (30) days of hire, as required. For positions working with infants and toddlers, must have completed, or be actively working toward completion within six (6) months of hire, Fundamentals of Infant/Toddler Care or an equivalent approved course. For positions working exclusively with school-age children, must complete Fundamentals of School-Age Care or an equivalent approved course within six (6) months of hire. Must be physically capable of bending, sitting on the floor, and safely carrying and lifting children or materials weighing up to approximately 35–40 pounds. Must understand, recognize, and support the mission, values, and Christian philosophy of Canaland Christian Day Care and Preschool. Attend a church service at least weekly as part of maintaining personal spiritual growth and alignment with the center’s Christian environment. Maintain compliance with all required continuing education and professional development requirements. Obtain and maintain current Infant/Child CPR certification within six (6) months of hire. Complete required Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and Shaken Baby Syndrome (SBS) training prior to working with children. Maintain all required certifications, training, health documentation, and professional qualifications in accordance with applicable childcare regulations and center policies.
