CAMP JOB ANNOUNCEMENT/DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Camp Program Coordinator – YMCA Camp Alexander REPORTS TO: Camp Director, South Wood County YMCA DATE: Seasonal – Summer 2026 (May-August) GENERAL FUNCTION The Camp Program Director is responsible for planning and leading general camp program operations; supervising staff and campers; coordinating office administration, camper files, and record keeping; and organizing the daily and weekly program schedule for YMCA Camp Alexander. This role helps ensure that all programs are safe, fun, age-appropriate, and aligned with the mission and core values of the YMCA. Depending on staffing and certifications, this position may also support basic health care functions such as camper health checks, medication administration, first aid, and documentation in collaboration with the designated Health Officer. YMCA Camp Alexander, operated by the South Wood County YMCA, offers a variety of traditional day camps for children and teens. The camp is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and small-group environment that develops the spirit, mind, and body of each individual. Camp is a place where youth learn about the outdoors, build positive values, make meaningful friendships, learn new skills, and grow in confidence. QUALIFICATIONS ● Must be at least 21 years of age. ● Previous camp or youth program leadership experience required; prior camp program or supervisory experience strongly preferred. ● Experience and/or training in health services, risk management, or first aid preferred. ● Emergency Medical Response, First Responder, or other licensed health care certification is preferred but not required. ● Preference given to candidates with coursework or a degree in camp administration, youth development/education, recreation, outdoor education, health-related fields, or related areas. ● Demonstrated leadership experience and a strong desire to work with youth and teens. ● Valid driver’s license required. ● Lifeguarding certification preferred (or willingness to obtain prior to camp season). ● Must be a positive role model—flexible, energetic, dedicated, organized, and a responsible team player. ● Some online and in-person pre-camp training will be required, including YMCA child protection and risk management training. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ● Must be able to respond quickly to campers or staff needing assistance or first aid in various locations around camp (indoors, outdoors, waterfront, trails, activity areas). ● Must be able to lead and participate alongside campers in a variety of physical activities in different weather conditions. ● Requires a high level of physical fitness, energy, and stamina, including the ability to lift/carry/load supplies and equipment as needed. ● Activities may include traditional camp games, hikes, canoeing/kayaking, team-building initiatives, swimming, and other outdoor recreation. COMPENSATION ● Seasonal position: compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications. ● Position is typically full-time during the core camp season with required pre-camp training and planning hours. ● Specific pay range and dates of employment will be outlined during the interview and hiring process.
