Elections are upon us! *please read*

Elyse Edens - Thursday, April 17, 2025
 Events
Hello poetry pals!

Election season is upon us (is it really almost the end of the semester? That's crazy.)! Elections will be open on SPIN from Friday, April 25th to Sunday, May 4th at midnight. If you are at all interested in running for an officer position and getting to be apart of what makes Rising Voices Poetry what it is, please reach out to us and we'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. For those who have decided to run and would like their name on the ballot, please email rvp@uwsp.edu by Tuesday, April 22nd at midnight so we can make sure to get your name on the ballot. Please do not send personal messages to any of the current officers regarding this as we desperately crave a healthier work life balance and it makes our lives more difficult so just don't do it! Just send us an email! Yay! As always, there will be a write-in option for each position, however, it is preferrable to have you listed so we don't have to worry about spelling mistakes or other confusions. Because of some of your officers having silly academic demands (aka student teaching), the following positions will be open, some of which are new to RVP. We are excited to be welcoming new people to our officer team! The open positions are as follows:

  • President Jr. - This position will be the designated person to take over as President in Spring 2026. Throughout Fall 2025, presidential tasks and obligiations will be transitioned onto this person to help make this transition as seamless as possible. The president is in charge of leading weekly and officer meetings, collaborating with other organizations on campus, lots of planning, overseeing the other officer positions, and other administrative tasks.

  • Vice President Jr. - Like the President Jr. position, this position will be the designated person to take over as Vice President in Spring 2026. Throughout Fall 2025, vice president tasks will be transitioned onto this person to help make this transition as seamless as possible. This position is primarily concerned with upkeeping our social media presence and ensuring our SPIN page is up to date for our members. This person also reviews weekly presentation materials and is meant to be prepared to lead club should the president not be able to attend.

  • Treasurer - The treasurer position is tasked with anything concerning our budget and funding. This position does have to complete some trainings through CASE in order to keep our organization at an active status and is also required to meet with SGA once per academic year (with the president) to represent our organization and why we need funding.

  • Secretary - The secretary is in charge of communication with our members and creating our monthly newsletter which gives members an overview of what is coming up.

Any vacant positons will be reopened for Spring 2026. All positions require a set number of office hours which are dependent on the specific role. Each officer can anticipate about two office hours per week (these are set in accordance with your schedule). No matter the position, all officers work closely with one another to make sure our organization is successful and accommodating of all perspectives.

Do not fear. All of these positions will make much more sense once we begin discussing in person and I promise we will make sure you are comfortable and understand what is expected of you. If you would like to know more about a specific position or what officer life is like, don't hesitate to reach out! Seriously, talk to us!

Toodles!
